
Karnataka's history dates back to the 3rd Century BC. The succession of able administrators from the Hoysalas, Chalukyas and the mighty Vijayanagara rulers, to the arrival of the Mughals in the 17th century and the British in the 18th Century have contributed to the mix of culture and heritage that is as rich as it is ancient.
Karnataka has everything a tourist loves. The state has historical treasures, ancient sculptures, unspoilt beaches, hill stations, wildlife, pilgrim centres, adventure spots, silks, antiques, handicrafts etc. The most visited places include, Bengaluru, Mysore, Hassan (Belure & Halebid), Badami, Hospet, Hampi, Aihole, Pattadakkal, Bijapur, as also the wildlife parks like, Nagarhole and Bandipur. Hampi and Pattadakkal monuments in Bijapur district are in the World Heritage list.
