Wayanad Wild Life Sanctuary Muthanga is the abode for a wide variety of wildlife and beautiful birds. This Sanctuary in Muthanga has fair numbers of the magnificent mammals (elephants).
The Wildlife Species that could be spotted during Wayanad Wildlife Safari include Elephants, Gaur, Cheetal, Dholes, Jackals, Tigers and Otters. The avifaunal species that could be spotted on a Wayanad wildlife safari include Crested Serpent Eagle, Crested Hawk Eagle, Malabar Grey Hornbill and King Vultures. Pookode Lake is one of the major tourist attractions in Wayanad. The lake is surrounded by thick woods and trees. This scenic lake presents a calm and serene environment. Edakkal Caves- These two caves on the Ambukuthi Hills, lying between Sulthan Battery and Ambalavayal. The walls of the caves are decorated by many pictoral writings of the New Stone Age Civilization. The caves are known all over the world as one of the earliest centres of human habitat.
Banasura Dam the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia, the Banasura Sagar Dam is situated 15 kms from Kalpetta.
The dam holds a large expanse of water and its picturesque beauty is enhanced by the chain of mountains seen on the backdrop. It is constructed in the Banasura Lake and the nearby mountains are known as Banasura Hills. The scenic mountains beckon adventure tourists and the dam site is an ideal starting point for trekking. During monsoon, visitors may also be able to see small islands in the dam’s reservoir. They are formed while the flooded reservoir submerges the surrounding areas too. If interested, proceed to Sree Muthappan Kavu to witness Theyyam, the ritual art form being performed at the temple premises. (if it is of your interest, previous evening can also be used to visit the temple). Later, leave Thalassery via Muzhuppilangadu Drive-in beach. Spot lunch or refreshments can be arranged at the beach, if interested to spend some time swimming in the sea.
Continue driving to Kozhikode and checkin at a Beach Resort or River side Resort or in a hotel in downtown.
After early breakfast, proceed to a local Kalari (Training Centre) to watch students practice Kalaripayattu – the martial art of Kerala. Later, visit Beypore famous for URU (boat) building yard, and then Kappad Beach.
